Pandemic Portraits and Beyond

Fibonacci pandemic spiral,

It took a pandemic to get me back in the studio! This image “Pandemic Spiral” earned an honorable mention in fotofoto gallery’s 6th International Phone-ography September 30, 2020 – October 24, 2020
fotofoto gallery is located at 14 West Carver St. in Huntington, NY

These photographic specimens are portraits made while sheltering in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. I find relief in photographing every day in an attempt to imagine complex systems in nature, specifically circular objects that reflect the coronavirus shape. These images have become digital prints, hand-made books, solar-printed cyanotypes and posts. See more on the Arts Network for Santa Cruz County.

The series derives from a creative practice I began years ago, when I started walking my local beach daily collecting seaweed and plastic and became obsessed with the cohabitation of the forms. Now using digital filters, I photograph plants found on walks inspired by our current climate, physically, politically, emotionally and socially.
