Coronavirus Constructions

Toned cyanotype of seaweed.

Pandemic Question
During our current pandemic, I find relief photographing plants and algae in an attempt to imagine complex systems in nature, specifically circular objects that reflect the coronavirus shape. These images and specimens become digital prints, hand-made books and solar-printed cyanotypes.

This series derived from a creative practice I began years ago by collecting and photographing local seaweed and discarded plastic and became obsessed with the cohabitation of the forms. Now I use algae, sand, and grasses with found text on cyanotype to imprint my observations of the pandemic, climate crisis, and racial inequities.

Toned cyanotype made with seaweed inspired by COVID-19.
